ROCK HILL, S.C. – UNC Asheville women's tennis dropped its road Big South Conference opener to Winthrop, 7-0, on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

UNC Asheville (5-4, 0-2 Big South) just missed on a tremendous upset at No. 1 doubles with the Bulldog tandem of Lize Alet Morkel and Taylor Love battling national No. 31 Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman of Winthrop in a narrow 6-4 loss.

The Eagles would take the doubles point with a win at No. 3 doubles as well with No. 2 doubles left unfinished.

Winthrop (6-3, 2-0 Big South) from there would go on to take wins in all of the singles flights.

UNC Asheville women's tennis will next travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Wofford at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.
