Baker and Gilmore Pick Up Big South Conference Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – DeVon Baker and Donovan Gilmore of UNC Asheville men's basketball both received honors from the Big South Conference on Monday, March 4, 2019.

Baker was named to the All-Freshman Team, while Gilmore was chosen to the Big South Men's Basketball All-Academic Team.

A freshman guard out of Dayton, Ohio, Baker is in the midst of an elite freshman season for the Bulldogs.

Baker led all freshmen in the Big South in points per game with 16.4 points per game. He finished the regular season with 491 points. The point total is eighth-best in Big South history among freshmen.  

Baker ended the regular season having scored in double figures 26 times this season. He also averaged 3.1 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game.

In total, Baker closed out the regular season in the top-10 in six major categories. He led all freshmen in the Big South in points, assists, free throw percentage, steals, minutes played and assist-to-turnover ratio.

Gilmore has played in 58 games overall in a UNC Asheville uniform. The forward has scored 198 points and brought down 178 rebounds in his career. Gilmore has two double-doubles in his career.

In UNC Asheville's win over Milligan last season he had 16 rebounds and 13 points. This season in UNC Asheville's home Big South win over USC Upstate, Gilmore finished with a career-best 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The redshirt senior out of Greensboro, N.C. is averaging 3.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game this season.

The Wesleyan Christian Academy product will graduate from UNC Asheville in May of 2019 with a degree in Health & Wellness Promotion.
