Bulldogs Host Conference Rival Longwood at Greenwood Field

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team is set to face off with Big South Conference rival Longwood for a three-game series at Greenwood Field beginning on Friday, March 29.
First pitch for game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, while the second game of the series is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start time on Saturday, March 30. The series will conclude with game three at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Probable Starters
Friday: LHP Jordan Carr (2-4, 5.40 ERA) vs. LHP Andrew Melnyk (0-1, 5.14 ERA)
Saturday: TBA vs. RHP Tyler Morgan (2-3, 3.34 ERA)
Sunday: LHP Greg Gasparro (1-4, 10.38 ERA) vs. TBA
About the Bulldogs
UNC Asheville is 3-3 in the Big South Conference and 8-15 overall. The Bulldogs are 4-2 at Greenwood Field with two series victories over Iona and USC Upstate.
In UNC Asheville's midweek tilt versus ETSU on Wednesday, the Bulldogs were led offensively by Jake Madole, Brandon Lankford and Carmine Pagano. The trio combined for seven hits, four RBIs and one run scored. Junior Greg Gasparro worked three walks from the lead-off spot and touched home three times.
On the mound, freshman Jacob Edwards started the game and went two innings, with one hit and two strikeouts. The bullpen really shined for the Bulldogs as eight of the eleven relievers used combined for six innings, no runs, two hits, three walks and eight strikeouts in the extra-inning affair. Senior Austin Fahr faced four batters and struck out three on twelve pitches in his one inning of work.
About Longwood
Longwood comes to Asheville owning a 7-17 overall record and a 2-4 record in the Big South Conference. The Lancers took two out of three from Gardner-Webb on the road and then were swept in a three-game series by Winthrop at home in Farmville, Va.
Offensively, the Lancers are led by Hunter Gilliam. Gilliam has started all 24 games for the Lancers and has a .314 average, three home runs and 11 RBIs. The freshman leads Longwood with 27 hits and 40 total bases on the season. Carlos Garrido leads the team out of anyone with at least 60 plate appearances with a .317 batting average.
On the hill, the Lancers are led by Tyler Morgan. The junior has started six games and has thrown 35 innings to go along with 43 strikeouts and a 3.34 ERA. Jon Peterson leads the bullpen with nine appearances, 16 innings and a 2.81 ERA. The senior has also picked up two wins and one save.
