Freeberger, Madole Homer in Series Finale Loss

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Despite Dominic Freeberger and Jake Madole each smacking home runs, the UNC Asheville baseball team dropped game three of the series at Campbell, 6-3, on Sunday at Jim Perry Stadium.
BULLDOG BITES
Highlights
UNC Asheville opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, as Freeberger collected his first collegiate home run. The rookie served a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead.
The Camels retaliated in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at 1-all, as Matthew Barefoot smacked a solo home run in the third.
Campbell doubled its lead in the fifth inning, as AJ Hrica plated Koby Collins after his leadoff double.
Up 2-1, Campbell extended its lead in the seventh inning, as it plated four runs in the frame. Collins connected with a solo homer, while Barefoot tallied a two-RBI triple. Barefoot touched home for the fourth run of the inning via a bases-loaded walk.
UNC Asheville tried to mount a comeback in the ninth inning and nearly did so. Freeberger reached base safely via a fielding error, and Madole cranked a two-run homer to bring the contest within three runs, 6-3. Madole's home run was his third of the year. Brandon Lankford followed with a hit by a pitch to put another Bulldog on base, but the next three Bulldogs went down in order.
Gasparro recorded the longest starting outing for UNC Asheville this year, as the junior twirled 6.2 innings. He struck out one batter and scattered six hits on 91 pitches.
Kole Harris closed the game with 1.1 innings without allowing a hit or run. The Asheville closer also struck out three of the five batters he faced.
Freeberger was the lone Bulldogs with multiple hits, as the rookie smacked a double and a single. His solo blast was the first of his career. The utility player touched home twice and also collected a RBI.
Madole was the other Bulldog with an extra-base hit, as the redshirt junior smacked a two-run home runs.
Danny Wilson and PJ Heintz also collected singles in the series finale.
UNC Asheville falls to 8-14 overall and 3-3 in Big South games, while Campbell moves to 14-9 overall and 5-1 in league contests.
