Bulldogs Continue Conference Play at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team will continue conference play on Friday, as the Bulldogs will open a three-game series at Campbell.

About the Bulldogs

UNC Asheville travels to Buies Creek with a 7-12 overall record and is 2-1 in Big South games. In the last five contests, UNC Asheville is a respectable 2-3, which includes a series victory over USC Upstate.

In the last five games, three Bulldogs led the UNC Asheville offense in Brandon Lankford, Danny Wilson and Carmine Pagano. Lankford was unstoppable at the plate, as he tallied six hits. Five of those hits were extra-base knocks with three doubles and two home runs. With his two home runs, he brought his conference-leading home run total to eight. He is now in a tie for eighth in NCAA DI baseball. Wilson was also strong in the last five games, as he totaled a team-best six RBIs on six hits. He smacked a pair of doubles and earned a home run as well. Carmine Pagano also totaled six hits, which included three doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored in five starts. He was also one of two Bulldogs to swipe a base in the last five games.

Greg Gasparro led the starting rotation against USC Upstate. The utility player twirled 5.2 innings and allowed just three earned runs, while striking out three. Wilson was also strong in his start, as the senior started against No. 21 Tennessee. In the start, he tossed three innings of two-hit ball. He also didn't allow a run against the nationally-ranked foe. Wilson also helped seal the conference-series victory over USC Upstate, as he earned his first career save on Sunday. He tossed three frames against the Spartans and allowed just one run.

About Campbell

Campbell welcomes UNC Asheville to Jim Perry Stadium with a 12-8 overall record and a 3-0 mark in league contests. The Camels are on a four-game winning streak, which includes a sweep of High Point and a home victory over Duke.

Luis Gimenez leads the Campbell offense with a .366 batting average, as he has started all 20 games. He has totaled 30 hits, which includes eight doubles and a triple. He also has 15 RBIs and 40 total bases to go along with his 15 runs scored. Collin Wolf is second on the squad with a .333 batting average. He is tied for the team lead in home runs with three. Wolf has a team-best 18 RBIs, and he has also touched home 17 times. Preseason Player of the Year Matthew Barefoot is the final Camel hitter that is hitting above .300 at .309. He has also started all 20 games and has connected with 25 total hits. He has six doubles, a triple and three home runs. He leads the team in runs scored with 22.

Ryan Chasse and Seth Johnson headline the starting rotation for the Camels, as they have combined for nine starts and four wins. Chasse has started five games, worked 23.1 innings and allowed eight earned runs. Johnson has started four games and totes a 3.60 ERA in 20 innings of work.

Landry Moore and Jack Yusko are two of the most consistent relievers for Campbell, as they have appeared in 18 combined games. Moore has pitched in 12 games and has a team-best three saves. He has totaled 18.1 innings and sports a 0.98 ERA. Yusko has pitched in six games, allowed one earned run and struck out seven.
