Women’s Golf Makes Quick Turnaround; Competes in Two-Day Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – With just two days off, the UNC Asheville women's golf team will make the quick turnaround, as it will compete in the two-day Briar's Creek Invitational at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek.

Last Time Out - Pinehurst Women's Intercollegiate
For the third straight season, the UNC Asheville women's golf team won a team title, as it claimed the team crown at the Pinehurst Women's Intercollegiate. The Bulldogs finished the three-day tournament at 91-over 955 (321-317-317). They bested the runner-up by eight strokes to claim their first title of the 2018-19 season.
Four Bulldogs finished in the top 8 in Kellen Alsip, Taylor Hinson, Baylee Evans and Adelyn Deery.
Alsip was only four strokes away from matching the first-place winner (Ami Gianchandani of Yale). Alsip opened the tournament with a 7-over 79 and followed that round with an 8-over 80. She then capped off the outing with a 5-over 77 to improve into a two-way tie for third.
Hinson, Evans and Deery finished behind one another at sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively. Hinson posted a team-best round of 4-over 76 in the second round, while Evans and Deery played consistent in the tournament.
Linna Brooks and Janie Thomas finished within the top 23 at tied for 21st and 23rd, respectively. Brooks finished with a 40-over 256 (85-86-85), while Thomas inked a 42-over 258 (87-87-84).
About the Briar's Creek Invitational
The highly-competitive Briar's Creek Invitational is hosted by Colonial Athletic Association member College of Charleston. The two-day outing will be held at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C.
The course is a par-72 and runs 6,101 yards.
The tournament will feature four teams within the DI WGCA (Women's Golf Coaches Association) Coaches top 25 poll - No. 20 Furman, No. 21 Michigan State, No. 22 Clemson and No. 25 Illinois.There will be three Big South Conference members competition in the tournament in UNC Asheville, Charleston Southern and Campbell.
The two-day outing opens with 36 holes on Monday, March 18 with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Tuesday's round will also be a shotgun start, and the teams will only play 18 holes.

What's Next?
After playing two tournaments in a span of six days, UNC Asheville will take a week off before hosting the first-ever UNC Asheville French Broad Collegiate Invitational. The two-day tournament will be played at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, which begins on Monday, March 25.
