FINAL RESULTS

PINEHURST, N.C.
– For the third straight season, the UNC Asheville women's golf team has won a tournament, as the Bulldogs claimed first place at the 2019 Pinehurst Women's Intercollegiate on Friday at the Pinehurst No. 8 Golf Course.

The team victory marks the third straight season the Bulldogs have won a team title. The Bulldogs won the Oyster Shuck Match Play in their inaugural season and claimed first-place honors last season at the NKU Fall Classic.

Highlights

UNC Asheville led the three-day tournament from day one (Wednesday) and continued to hold on to the top spot, as it finished in first following 54 holes of play. The Bulldogs finished the tournament with a 91-over 955 (321-317-317) to best the runner-up (St. John's) by eight strokes.

Three Bulldogs again finished in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard, as Kellen Alsip finished in a tie for third with Linda Wang of St. John's. The Bulldog finished her outing with her lowest round score of the tournament at 5-over 77. That score vaulted her three positions on the leaderboard. Overall, Alsip was only three strokes from moving into second place and four strokes from taking the individual crown. Alsip's final round consisted of one birdie on the 339-yard hole three, and the Cincinnati, Ohio native shot par or better on 13 holes. 

Taylor Hinson and Adelyn Deery carded the same score on Friday at 7-over 79. Hinson sank a pair of birdies, while finishing at 2-over 38 on her front nine. Deery played level throughout the final 18 holes, as she etched a par or better on 13 holes.

Hinson finished the three-day tournament in sole possession of sixth place at 22-over 238 (83-76-79), and Deery placed two spots behind her teammate in eighth at 25-over 241 (80-82-79).

Baylee Evans had a team-best three birdies on the final 18 holes, including sinking back-to-back birdies on holes five and six. She finished the tournament in sole possession of seventh place, which marks the best finish in her career. 

Janie Thomas and Linna Brooks rounded out the scores for the Bulldogs at 12-over 84 and 13-over 85, respectively, on the final round. Brooks finished in a tie for 21st, while Thomas placed 23rd. 

Overall, all six Bulldogs finished in the top 25.

Ami Gianchandani of Yale took home the individual crown, as she fended off Zhangcheng Guo of Boston University. Gianchandani finished the outing at 16-over 232, while Guo carded a 17-over 233 in the tournament. 

What's Next?

In the shortest turnaround of the season, the Bulldogs will only have three days of rest before returning to the links on Monday, March 18 to compete in the Briar's Creek Invitational at Johns Island, S.C. The two-day tournament is hosted by College of Charleston and will be held at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek.
