Highlights
The Bulldogs struck first in the contest with Brandon Lankford unloading to left field in the top of the second inning for his Big South-leading seventh home run of the season.
Lankford's seventh home run of the season that garnered the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage allowed him to also move into the top-10 in the country for home runs.
The Volunteers would even things up in the game with a single run in the bottom of the third inning.
UNC Asheville would respond to Tennessee's run with one of their own in the top of the fourth inning to take back the lead at 2-1.
Danny Wilson got things going for the Bulldogs in the inning when he doubled to right-center field. A couple of batters later Carmine Pagano singled to left field to bring home Wilson and give the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage.
UNC Asheville looked as if they would add three more runs in the inning, but Tennessee was able to rob what looked to be an Andrew Friedholm home run to left field with Evan Russell's glove somehow keeping the baseball inside the confines of Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Volunteers would plate two in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Alerick Soularie would then hit a two-run home run to left-center field in the bottom of the seventh to give the Volunteers a 5-2 lead in the game. Tennessee would add two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend its lead to the final score of 7-2.
Pagano led the Bulldogs in the game, going 2-of-4 at the dish with an RBI. Lankford finished with an RBI and a run scored on the home run, while Wilson scored one run on one hit. Kole Harris and Tyler Serrichio also had hits for the Bulldogs.
Overall, Tennessee out-hit the Bulldogs narrowly, 9-6. Jay Charleston, Connor Pavolony and Ricky Martinez each had two hits for the Volunteers.

UNC Asheville opens its Big South Conference schedule by hosting newly-accepted member USC Upstate for a three-game series. The first game of the series is set for Friday, March 15 at 6 p.m. at Greenwood Field.
