Baseball Alters Weekend Series With Iona; Opens at Greenwood Field on Friday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team opens the month of March by hosting Iona in a three-game series this weekend at Greenwood Field.
The series opener is set for 3 p.m. on Friday, March 1. The second and third games of the series will be played as part of a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2. The second game of the doubleheader will be played approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Probable Starters
Friday: LHP Jordan Carr (0-2, 5.56 ERA) vs. RHP Stephen Hansen (0-0, 2.45 ERA)
Saturday Game One: RHP Blake Brown (0-0, 3.86 ERA) vs. RHP Hunter Sibley (0-1, 4.32 ERA)
Saturday Game Two: LHP Greg Gasparro (0-1, 19.29 ERA) vs. LHP Chris Dodrill (0-2, 11.00 ERA)
About the Bulldogs
UNC Asheville is 2-6 on the season.
The Bulldogs split a two-game midweek road stretch with two Southern Conference teams. The Bulldogs dropped a game, 14-2, to Wofford on Feb. 26, before defeating Furman, 4-3, on Feb. 27.
In UNC Asheville's win against Furman, senior Danny Wilson led the way at the plate with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Brandon Lankford contributed with his third home run of the season, when he connected for a solo shot in the top of the fourth.
On the mound, the Bulldogs used six pitchers to secure the victory. Greg Gasparro started the game and went two innings, gave up two hits and struck out four of the eight batters faced. Jacob Edwards led the way with three innings pitched and struck out three, while securing the win.
Scouting Iona
Iona comes to Asheville with a 0-7 overall record. It went 0-4 in the 2019 UNCW Tournament last weekend in Wilmington, N.C.
At the plate, Iona is led by freshman Jake Field and senior Joe Demaio. Field leads the team with eight RBIs. The infielder also has eight hits and 14 total bases. Demaio leads the team with nine hits and 15 total bases.
On the hill, right-hander Hansen leads the way with 11.0 innings pitched and a 2.45 ERA in two games started.
