Women’s Golf Opens Spring Portion of Season at the 2019 Kiawah Island Spring Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – After four months away from the links, the UNC Asheville women's golf team returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 24, as the Bulldogs will compete in the three-day, 54-hole 2019 Kiawah Island Spring Classic.

About UNC Asheville
UNC Asheville competed in five tournaments in the fall – NKU Fall Classic, MSU Greenbrier Invitational, F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, Blue Hose Match Play and Terrier Intercollegiate.
UNC Asheville's best finish was at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational, as the team finished tied for third overall. Asheville's season-low round in the fall was a 300 outing in the second round at the season-opening NKU Fall Classic.
The women's golf team is led by sophomore golfer Taylor Hinson. The Belmont, N.C. native finished the fall season with a 76.36 scoring average. Hinson finished in the top 25 in all of the tournaments for the Bulldogs, which was highlighted a tied for eighth finish at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.
Adelyn Deery has the team's second-lowest scoring average, as the junior averages 78.00 strokes per round. She had one of the best overall finishes for the Bulldogs in the fall, as Deery finished tied for third at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational.
Kellen Alsip rounds out the top-3 scoring averages for UNC Asheville, as the junior finished the fall with a 78.36 scoring average.

The three-day outing is being hosted by College of Charleston at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Osprey Point and Oak Point course in Kiawah Island, S.C. The Osprey Point course is a par 72 and runs 5,984 yards, and the Oak Point course is a par 72 as well and runs 5,977 yards.
Overall there are 48 team participating in the 54-hole tournament. Seven of the 48 schools are from the Big South Conference – Charleston Southern, Hampton, High Point, Longwood, UNC Asheville, Presbyterian and USC Upstate.
