UNC Asheville Falls to Blue Hose on Saturday at Kimmel Arena

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Three Bulldogs finished in double figures in UNC Asheville's 71-55 loss to Presbyterian College at Kimmel Arena on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019.
The Blue Hose (17-12, 9-5 Big South) opened the game by scoring the first seven points, but the Bulldogs (4-24, 2-12 Big South) responded by scoring the next 11 to own an 11-7 advantage after a DeVon Baker jumper in the paint with 13:40 left in the first half.
The Bulldogs would go on to lead by nine points at 20-11 after a Donovan Gilmore dunk with 8:09 remaining until intermission.
The Blue Hose would cut into the lead over the final minutes of the first half, but the Bulldogs would take a 30-29 lead into the halftime break.
UNC Asheville finished the first half shooting 48.1 percent (13-of-27) as a team. The Bulldogs limited the Blue Hose to just 25 percent (6-of-24) shooting in the first stanza.
Baker closed out the first half 4-of-5 from the field with nine points.
The two teams would battle back and forth over the course of the first few minutes of the second half with the game tied at 35-all with almost exactly 16 minutes to play in the game.
UNC Asheville and Presbyterian College would still be all tied up at 40-40 with 11:48 remaining after a Tajion Jones layup, but that would prove to be as close as the Bulldogs would get the rest of the way with the Blue Hose pulling away for the win.
The Bulldogs concluded the game shooting 42 percent (21-of-50) as a team. The Blue Hose shot 38.9 percent (21-of-54).
Baker finished with 16 points to lead all Bulldogs. He also had two rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Jones and LJ Thorpe both finished with 13 points for the Bulldogs. Jones also had seven boards and one assist. Thorpe had three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Francois Lewis led two Blue Hose in double figures with 22 points and six rebounds.

With his 16 points, DeVon Baker has now scored in double figures 24 times this season for the Bulldogs overall. He has scored in double figures in 19 out of UNC Asheville's last 20 games.
