Box Score
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's tennis beat Emmanuel 5-2 on Wednesday, Feb 13, at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
"We are still trying to get ourselves firing on all cylinders," UNC Asheville women's tennis head coach Lise Gregory said. "We are still using some people sparingly because of injuries. "The team is doing a really good job of understanding that, and understanding where we are. People are stepping up and doing a really good job. I was really proud of Madeline Finley today, coming in at No. 4 and getting a win over Maria Raich Solans, who is a tough competitor. This is a season where we are going to have to be really tough and figure out a way to get it done one match to the next."
UNC Asheville women's tennis (5-2) got a 1-0 lead early with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point. The Bulldogs would then get dominating performances from Christin Louw at No. 2 and Emily Sidor at No. 3 to go up 3-0. Finley would pull through with the clinching match at No. 4, while freshman, Lize Alet Morkel, would go to three sets to defeat Fantine Botella at No. 1.
Emmanuel (1-5) would take the matches at No. 5 and No. 6 for the final score of 5-2.
The Bulldogs will next take a couple days off before playing their first Big South Conference match of the season on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown versus Radford at 3 p.m.
