Bulldogs Shutout Lady Pirates Wednesday

HAMPTON, Va. – UNC Asheville women's soccer secured their fourth shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory against the Lady Pirates of Hampton Wednesday afternoon.
Gillian Oyos put the Bulldogs up in the 35th minute with her second goal of the year. The Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick after a handball was called in the box. Oyos placed the ball perfectly in the bottom left corner that was just out of reach of the Hampton goalkeeper.
Bryson Lee and the Bulldog defense held the Lady Pirates without a goal in the first half as Lee recorded a save on all three Hampton shot attempts.
UNC Asheville attempted to add to their lead with six shot attempts in the second half but Oyos' goal in the first half proved to be enough as the Bulldog defense held the Lady Pirates without a goal.
Hampton attempted only one second half shot that was saved by Lee in the goal to preserve the 1-0 Bulldog lead.
The Bulldogs four shutouts this season is the most they have had in a single season since 2016.
The Bulldogs will return home for a matchup with Charleston Southern, Saturday, October 12, at 6 p.m. The match will be played at Greenwood Field as part of "Asheville Soccer Night" with the UNC Asheville men's team playing at 3:30 p.m. For more info on "Asheville Soccer Night" please click HERE.
