Bulldogs Fall to Bucs Despite Two Goal Effort

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville's women's soccer team put two goals on the board Saturday night at Greenwood Field but couldn't contain the Buccaneers as Charleston Southern claimed the 4-2 victory.
Courtney McCluskey put the Bulldogs on the board with her first career goal in the 35th minute. McCluskey took off down the middle of the field and took a pass from Alice Walker that put her one on one with the Buccaneer goalkeeper. McCluskey moved the goalkeeper left and placed the ball in the bottom right of the net to put the Bulldogs up 1-0.
Charleston Southern responded with an equalizer goal off the foot of Kylie Doster with seven seconds left in the first half to even the score 1-1 going into the half.
The Bulldogs once again took the lead only six minutes into the second half. Olivia Lenderman took a corner kick and found the foot of Barrett Eidson who placed the ball into the back of the net to give the Bulldogs the 2-1 advantage. The goal was Eidson's second of the season.
The Buccaneers once again evened the score in the 55th minute with a goal by Zari Hayes and then took the lead two minutes later on a goal by Bri Robinson.
Charleston Southern added another goal to their tally in the 68th minute off the foot of Kat Klingensmith to take a two goal advantage over the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Gillian Oyos attempted to put the Bulldogs on the board again with two powerful efforts in the final fifteen minutes of play but both were saved by the Buccaneer goalkeeper.
UNC Asheville took a total of 16 shots in the match with seven being on goal.
Bryson Lee recorded 9 saves in the match from between the pipes. The junior goalkeeper has now made eight starts this season and has recorded a total of 50 saves.
The Bulldogs will take the pitch again at 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 16, versus Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C.

"It's safe to say a pretty disappointing result there at the end," head coach Clifton Bush said. "We had the lead twice and let it slip away so that definitely will sting for a little bit. We have to bounce back with a quick turnaround to Wednesday. We're still trying to make a playoff run so at this point we just have to bounce back and not let this sting for too long."
On the Bulldogs making a playoff run:
"The math is there for us to grab a playoff spot. We have to make a run and put up a few results. We have finally started to score a couple of goals opposed to scoring just one late in overtime which has been our rhythm. Now can we do that and match it with the defensive intensity that we have played with against some other top teams in the conference."
