Bulldogs Fall to Gardner-Webb Wednesday

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's soccer fell to Gardner-Webb, 2-0, in a road match Wednesday evening in Boiling Springs, N.C.
UNC Asheville took a total of 13 shots while putting nine shots on goal in the match but couldn't seem to find the back of the net. Three Bulldogs put multiple shots on goal. Junior forward Skyler Chillson led the attack with three shots on goal while Gillian Oyos and Maya Gutman each finished the match with two.
Barrett Eidson and Emily Duenas each put a shot on goal as well.
Courtney O'Malley got the start from between the pipes, her sixth of the season, and played all 90 minutes. O'Malley secured a season high nine saves. The sophomore goalkeeper totaled at least nine saves in seven matches during the 2018 season.
Gardner-Webb broke the 0-0 tie in the 20th minute with a goal from Stina Kleppe. The UNC Asheville defense held Gardner-Webb without another goal until the 79th minute when they added to their modest lead with a goal from Maddie Turlington to put the Runnin' Bulldogs up 2-0.
The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as they will take on Longwood at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, October 19, at Greenwood Field.
