Chillson’s Goal Not Enough as Bulldogs Fall in Second Overtime

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville's women's soccer team dropped a match, 2-1, in the second overtime to Longwood on Saturday.
The Lancers scored their first goal of the game in the fifth minute on a goal by Madison Lockamy and then were held without another goal until the 102nd minute during the second overtime period.
The Bulldogs were held without a goal in the first half but took three shots on goal in the half that were all saved by the Lancer goalkeeper.
Bulldog goalkeeper Courtney O'Malley secured five saves in the first half of the match.
The Lancers took a 1-0 lead into the half but the Bulldogs responded early in the second half. Skyler Chillson put the Bulldogs on the board in the 56th minute to tie the game at 1. Chillson took a pass from Isabella Piso and placed it in the back of the net for her second goal of the year.
The Lancers put six shots on goal in the second half but O'Malley saved all six to keep the game tied 1-1.
Both teams were held without a goal in the first overtime period despite each team putting one shot on goal.
The Lancers came out attacking in the second overtime period as they took two shots. Kennedy Culbreath scored the golden goal on their second shot attempt to give the Lancers' the victory. The goal was scored off of a pass from Taylor Alvey and placed in the bottom right of the net by Culbreath just out of O'Malley's reach.
In total, O'Malley secured 12 saves on 14 shots on goal. Her 12 saves are now a new season high for the sophomore.
The Bulldogs will be back on the pitch, Wednesday, October 23, with a matchup versus Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C.
