Women’s Soccer Hosts Charleston Southern in “Asheville Soccer Night” Doubleheader

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's soccer will host Charleston Southern at 6 p.m. Saturday night at Greenwood Field.
The Bulldogs (4-9) secured their second Big South Conference victory of the season, Wednesday, October 9, with a 1-0 shutout victory of the Hampton Pirates in Hampton, Va.
Gillian Oyos put the Bulldogs up in the 35th minute with her second goal of the year. The Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick after a handball was called in the box. Oyos placed the ball perfectly in the bottom left corner that was just out of reach of the Hampton goalkeeper. That goal proved to be the difference as the Bulldog defense held the Lady Pirates without the goal to secure UNC Asheville's fourth shutout of the season.
The Bulldogs defeated USC Upstate, 1-0, at Greenwood Field for their first win of the conference season, September 25. Gillian Oyos scored the game-winning goal in the game's 107th minute to beat the Spartans 1-0. Oyos' goal was scored off of a corner kick by Alice Walker that was deflected by a Spartan defender.
Charleston Southern has begun the conference portion of their schedule with a record of 0-4-2. The Buccaneers have suffered three straight losses to Winthrop, Gardner-Webb and Campbell.
UNC Asheville women's soccer will play the second match of the Bulldog doubleheader with the men's team playing at 3:30 p.m. The Bulldogs will welcome Asheville City SC, Asheville Buncombe Adult Soccer Association, YMCA of Western North Carolina and the South Slop Blues to Greenwood Field as part of Asheville Soccer Night.
Members of those organizations will receive $4 discounted admission into both Saturday matches at Greenwood Field by clicking HERE and using promo code AVLSOCCER.
