Bulldogs Take on Pirates in Road Match Wednesday

HAMPTON, Va. – UNC Asheville women's soccer will travel to Virginia Wednesday to take on the Pirates of Hampton in a 3 p.m. matchup.
The Bulldogs (3-9) have opened their Big South Conference season with a 1-3 record. They opened this portion of their schedule with a 2-0 loss to Campbell before defeating USC Upstate at Greenwood Field. Gillian Oyos scored the game-winning goal in the game's 107th minute to beat the Spartans 1-0. Oyos' goal was scored off of a corner kick by Alice Walker that was deflected by a Spartan defender.
The Bulldog's victory against USC Upstate was UNC Asheville's second overtime victory and third shutout of the season.
Freshman midfielder Barrett Eidson scored her first goal of the season to give the Bulldogs an early lead versus High Point last week. The Panthers then responded with two quick goals that proved to be the difference in the 2-1 High Point victory. UNC Asheville then held Radford to only one goal in Saturday's match but couldn't ripple the net themselves to upset the Highlanders.
The Bulldogs and the Pirates faced off for the first time last season, Hampton's first in the Big South Conference. The Bulldogs claimed the 1-0 victory in the second overtime period at Greenwood Field.
This will be the Bulldogs first trip to Hampton, Va.
