10.31.2019 | Women's Volleyball

ASHEVILLE – After a month away from the friendly confines of the Justice Center, UNC Asheville's volleyball team returns home for a pair of weekend Big South Conference matches against Charleston Southern and Presbyterian.

Asheville is set to take on Charleston Southern in a 6 p.m., Friday, contest and will host Presbyterian in a 2 p.m., Saturday, matchup. Friday's contest will serve as the team's "Dig Pink" match in support of breast cancer awareness through the Side-Out Foundation.

The Bulldogs (9-10, 3-5 Big South) have won five of their seven matches at home this season, including two-of-three in league play. They enter the weekend having fallen in both matchups last weekend on the road, at High Point and Radford, and currently rank seventh in the conference standings.

Senior Julia Borges leads the team in a number of categories, including kills (171), points (211.5), solo blocks (12), block assists (35) and total blocks (47). She is second on the team in digs with 181 and has four double-double on the season.

Ansley Rooks has also had a strong senior campaign, as she leads the team with 19 service aces, and is second in kills (166) and points (190), and is third on the squad with 177 digs. Sophomore Molly Hackett is the third Bulldog to reach the 100-kill mark, racking up 155 and 169 points on the season.

Senior Kailey Hackett leads the team with 357 assists to put her at 1,700 for her career, while sophomore Grace Volk has 212 helpers.

Defensively, junior Kasey West has compiled a team-best 228 digs, while junior Cecilia Stack is second on the team with 36 total blocks.

Charleston Southern sports a 12-11 overall record and a 4-5 record in Big South play, currently in a tie for fifth in the conference. The Buccaneers swept Gardner-Webb last Friday before being swept by Winthrop, Saturday.

Presbyterian also enters the weekend at 12-11, but has a 6-3 record to sit at fourth in the conference standings. Like Charleston Southern, the Blue Hose were swept by Winthrop but swept Gardner-Webb last weekend.

General admission tickets are $6 each or $4 for faculty/staff, senior citizens and children (5-17). Tickets can be purchased at the gate, or they can be purchased in advance HERE or by calling (828) 258-7900.
