Bulldogs Take Down Bob Jones University in Final Preseason Tune Up

ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville's men's basketball team made Halloween a scary affair for Bob Jones University, as it defeated the Bruins, 91-70, in its lone exhibition matchup of the preseason, Thursday.
Second-year head coach Mike Morrell has been preaching tempo throughout the preseason, and his players executed, starting with a swarming defensive effort. The Bulldogs forced the Bruins into 27 turnovers and recorded 14 steals, led by three apiece from Tajion Jones and DeVon Baker.
The Bulldogs held a 39-12 advantage in points off turnovers. And continuing the theme of playing quickly, the Bulldogs outscored the Bruins 25-6 in fast break points.
LJ Thorpe led the way with 19 points, while Jones chipped in 14 and Trent Stephney added 13 to pace the Bulldogs in scoring.
Up next for the Bulldogs is a trip to Knoxville to take on the Volunteers in the 2019-20 season opener, 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 5. It will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two programs.
For those fans who can't make the trip to Tennessee, Highland Brewing Co. is hosting a FREE watch party for the season opener set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
