Bulldogs Host Bob Jones University in Thursday Exhibition

10.30.2019 | Men's Basketball

ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville men's basketball program will host its lone exhibition of the preseason, Thursday, when it welcomes Bob Jones University to Kimmel Arena for a 5 p.m. tipoff.

The exhibition is FREE for all fans, and doors to the arena will open at 4 p.m. There will be no reserved parking or Bulldog Athletic Association hospitality for the exhibition.

The Bulldogs will take the floor for the first time in head coach Mike Morrell's second season at the helm of the program with sophomore guard DeVon Baker leading the way. The Dayton, Ohio product earned Preseason First-Team All-Big South Conference recognition, announced Tuesday at the league's Basketball Media Day.

Baker led all freshmen in the conference and was ninth nationally among freshmen in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per game. He is fifth in the country in scoring averaging among this season's returning sophomore class entering the 2019-20 campaign.

In addition to Baker, seven other freshmen saw action in 2018-19 who now enter their second seasons with significant playing time. The freshman class combined for 109 starts a season ago. Tajion Jones averaged 10.2 points per game last season, while Coty Jude averaged 9.4 and shot 42 percent from beyond the arc.

Also joining the mix will be redshirt sophomore guard Lavar Batts, Jr. who transferred from NC State and redshirt junior forward Jax Levitch who played two seasons at Fort Wayne. The duo has been on campus since last season and will look to make an impact after sitting out a year due to NCAA transfer policies.

Three freshmen also join the squad, as guards Jamon Battle, AJ McBride and Trent Stephney will look to crack the rotation.

REAL MEN WEAR PINK
Morrell will wear pink during Thursday's game in support of the American Cancer Society's "Real Men Wear Pink" campaign that gathers community leaders to raise awareness and funds to help combat breast cancer. For more information on the initiative, please click HERE.
