DeVon Baker Tabbed Big South Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for Second Time This Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time this season, UNC Asheville's DeVon Baker has been chosen as the Big South Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week.
The league office made the official announcement on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019.
Baker's honoring marks UNC Asheville's third league Freshman of the Week plaudits this season. Coty Jude was tabbed Big South Freshman of the Week on Dec. 10, 2018, while Baker was first selected Freshman of the Week for Big South men's basketball on Dec. 27, 2018.
In UNC Asheville's two games last week, Baker averaged 13.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.
In UNC Asheville's narrow road league loss at Longwood on Thursday, Jan. 10, Baker finished with 14 points to go along with a career-best six assists. He also had two rebounds and a steal.
In UNC Asheville's road conference loss at Hampton on Saturday, Jan. 12, Baker finished with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists.
In both games he was 5-of-6 from the free throw line to end the week 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line overall.
On the season, Baker is leading the Bulldogs and in the top-10 in the conference in scoring at 16.2 points per game. He is also averaging 3.1 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game.
Baker and UNC Asheville men's basketball will next welcome Campbell to Kimmel Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The Bulldogs own a 25-20 all-time series edge over the Camels with Asheville having won 12 of the last 13 in the series.
The 7 p.m. game with Campbell will be featured on ESPN3.
