Alsip Nearly Medals, UNC Asheville Finishes Tied for Third at MSU Greenbrier Invitational

MSU GREENBRIER INVITATIONAL RESULTS
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Kellen Alsip nearly medaled on Tuesday at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational, while UNC Asheville women's golf finished tied for third at the two-day event at the Greenbrier Country Club.

Highlights
After sitting in seventh place after the first two rounds, Alsip made a surge all the way to third place. She just missed on earning a medal, despite finishing tied for third with Amalia Shahzan of Cincinnati. The Bearcat earned the medal over the Bulldog based on the final-round score tiebreaker.
Despite not earning a medal, Alsip surged up the rankings by making a four-spot increase from the second to third round. The Cincinnati, Ohio native carded a 3-over 75 in the third round. In the two-day tournament, Alsip shot a 12-over 228 (77-76-75). The tied for third place was also the highest individual finish for the Bulldogs.
Taylor Hinson fell eight places on Tuesday, as she inked an 8-over 80. She earned a top-10 finish with a 14-over 230 (73-77-80) score.
Adelyn Deery rounded out the top-20 finishes for Asheville, as the junior placed 16th with an 18-over 234 (78-77-79).
As a team, UNC Asheville finished tied for third with Belmont at 76-over 940. The Bulldogs penciled a 25-over 313 score to conclude the three-round tournament.
Cincinnati finished first, as the Bearcats earned a 43-over 907 (310-304-293) score. Austin Peay placed second with a 72-over 936, which was only a four-stroke advantage over UNC Asheville.
Rikke Svejgaard of Kentucky took home first-place honors at 1-under 215 (74-70-71). Alyssa Burritt of Cincinnati earned runner-up status at 10-over 226, while Shahzan won the bronze medal despite finishing tied for third with Alsip.
What's Next?
After back-to-back weeks of competition, UNC Asheville will take an extra week off to prepare for the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament starts on Monday, Oct. 2 and will be held in Clarksville, Tenn.
