Hinson Finishes Tied for Eighth to Lead Women’s Golf at F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – For the fifth time in her career, UNC Asheville women's golfer Taylor Hinson finished in the top-10, as the sophomore placed tied for eighth to lead the Bulldog team at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

Hinson finished tied for eighth, which marks the second time this year she has finished in the top-10. In her top-10 finish at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, she concluded her final round with a 2-over 74. In that round, Hinson didn't record a single bogey on the front nine en route to finishing even-par 35. On the back nine, the Belmont, N.C. native sank a pair of birdies to conclude the third round of the two-day tournament.
Hinson tied with one individual, Annalee Stephens of North Alabama, as both golfers carded an 11-over 227. With her 74 round score, Hinson improved two spots on the individual leaderboard on Tuesday.
Adelyn Deery had the second-best finish for Asheville, as the junior finished 32nd in the 68-person field. Deery carded a 5-over 77 on Tuesday, which improved her by a team-high six spots. The junior finished the tournament with a 23-over 239 (85-77-77).
Teammate Kellen Alsip was four spots behind Deery, as the Cincinnati, Ohio native finished tied for 36th. She concluded the two-day tournament with a 26-over 242.
As a team, UNC Asheville finished eighth at 95-over 959. The third round marked the lowest team round of the tournament for the Bulldogs, as they shot a 25-over 313.
Murray State jumped over University of Louisiana Monroe on the final day, as the Racers carded a 2-over 290 on Tuesday. With the near-flawless round for Murray State, it finished with a 12-shot advantage on ULM.
Leading after the first two rounds, Jahaanvie Walia of ULM held on to her position, as the Warhawk claimed the individual title at 1-over 217 (71-72-74). Linette Holmslykke of Murray State made it a competition on Tuesday, but she fell one stroke shy of matching Walia.
What's Next?
For the lone match play tournament of the season, UNC Asheville will prep for the Blue Hose Match Play. The two-day outing is hosted by Big South rival Presbyterian, and the tournament will commence on Monday, Oct. 15 in Ninety Six, S.C.
