UNC Asheville Travels to Kentucky for Two-Day MSU Greenbrier Invitational

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After an exciting NKU Fall Classic to open the 2018-19 season, the UNC Asheville women's golf team returns to the links on Monday, Sept. 17 to compete in the two-day MSU Greenbrier Invitational at the Greenbrier Country Club.
UNC Asheville was originally going to participate at the Pirate Collegiate Classic, but the outing was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence. Instead the Bulldogs will travel to Kentucky to play in the MSU Greenbrier Invitational.

Last Time Out - NKU Fall Classic
Sophomore Taylor Hinson picked up where she left off from her rookie season, as she earned another top-20 finish. Hinson finished tied for 16th in the 84-person field. She carded a 14-over 227 (77-77-73) in the two-day event.
Kellen Alsip and Adelyn Deery were right behind their Bulldog teammate, as both placed tied for 18th at 16-over 229. Alsip opened play at the NKU Fall Classic with back-to-back 6-over 77 rounds and concluded the tournament with a 4-over 75. Deery made headlines in the second round, as the junior broke the UNC Asheville individual round score record. She sank the first-ever 1-under 70 round. From the first to second round, Deery made a 12-stroke improvement in the same day.
Baylee Evans, who played in her first career tournament, finished tied for 36th in Batavia, Ohio. Evans opened the tournament with a 5-over 76 round and concluded play with consecutive 8-over 79 rounds to end the tournament at 21-over 234.
As a team, UNC Asheville finished tied for 6th at 71-over 923. The Bulldogs made a 15-shot improvement from the first to second round, as they carded a 16-over 300 in the second round. The massive improvement placed them fifth after the first day. Following a 24-over 308 third round, Asheville finished tied for 6th with Youngstown State.
About the MSU Greenbrier Invitational
The MSU Greenbrier Invitational is hosted by Morehead State, and the outing will be held at the Greenbrier Country Club in Lexington, Ky.
The golf course is a par-72 and runs 5,961 yards.
The tournament is a 54-hole scoring format with 36 holes on Sept. 17 and 18 holes on Sept. 18.
There are eight total teams in the two-day outing with UNC Asheville being the only school from the state of North Carolina. The Bulldogs will be one of two schools representing the Big South Conference, as Winthrop will be the other member school participating in the tournament. In total there are three schools from the Carolinas traveling to Lexington - UNC Asheville, Winthrop and Wofford.
