ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's basketball head coach Mike Morrell announced the addition of 6-foot-5 wing Stephen Edoka to the 2018-19 roster recently.

A native of Abuja, Nigeria, Edoka joins UNC Asheville from Concord First Assembly Academy in Concord, N.C.

"We are extremely excited to have Stephen join the Bulldog family," Morrell said. "He comes from a great high school program and he has tremendous upside. He will flourish in our style of play with his athleticism and toughness."

A 1,000-point scorer at Concord First Assembly, Edoka was an All-Metrolina Athletic Conference (MAC) selection in 2016-17 and 2017-18. He was also a two-time North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISSA) All-State selection.

The team captain for Concord First Assembly, Edoka was chosen to the North Carolina Private Schools All-Star Game and the Carolina Hoopfest All-Star Game.

Edoka averaged 18 points, 9.2 rebounds, two blocks and two steals per game during his senior season.

A strong student as well, Edoka had a 4.0 grade-point average. His older sister, Emmanuella Edoka, played for Siena and just graduated from the institution.

Edoka joins 6-foot-8 forward Luke Lawson, 6-foot-2 point guard DeVon Baker, 6-foot-7 forward Jax Levitch and 6-foot-2 combo guard Cress Worthy as the latest to join the UNC Asheville men's basketball program.

They join a UNC Asheville men's basketball program coming off its second straight regular-season Big South Conference championship and third straight postseason appearance with the Bulldogs playing in the 2018 National Invitation Tournament.

UNC Asheville men's basketball picked up its seventh Big South Conference regular-season title (1996-97, 1997-98, 2001-02, 2007-08, 2011-12, 2016-17 and 2017-18) this past season.

The Bulldogs continued to set the standard in the Big South this past season by becoming the first program in league history to win 15 games or more for 11 straight seasons. The Bulldogs have also now won 10 or more league games in a season in a Big South men's basketball record 11 straight seasons.
