ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's basketball head coach Mike Morrell recently announced the addition of Cress Worthy to the 2018-19 roster.

A 6-foot-2, 175-pound combo guard out of Gastonia, N.C., Worthy joins the Bulldogs from Beckley Prep where he played for Cortez Brown. Prior to playing at Beckley Prep, Worthy also played at Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia, N.C.

"I could not be more excited to officially introduce Cress to Bulldog fans," Morrell said. "He is a tough guard who can score at all three levels. I know Bulldog fans will enjoy having him as a part of our program."

Worthy averaged 20 points, six assists and five rebounds this past season at Beckley Prep in West Virginia. He averaged 14.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game as a senior at Hunter Huss in the 2016-17 season.

The guard who chose the Bulldogs over Drexel, Hofstra, Canisius and Kent State among others, is used to being a part of winning programs. He helped Beckley to a 28-12 record this past season after helping to lead Hunter Huss to a 49-29 record in his final three seasons with the program.

A relative of North Carolina legend James Worthy, Cress Worthy joins a UNC Asheville men's basketball program coming off its second straight regular-season Big South Conference championship and third straight postseason appearance with the Bulldogs playing in the 2018 National Invitation Tournament.

UNC Asheville men's basketball picked up its seventh Big South Conference regular-season title (1996-97, 1997-98, 2001-02, 2007-08, 2011-12, 2016-17 and 2017-18) this past season.

The Bulldogs continued to set the standard in the Big South this past season by becoming the first program in league history to win 15 games or more for 11 straight seasons. The Bulldogs have also now won 10 or more league games in a season in a Big South men's basketball record 11 straight seasons.
