Bulldogs Ranked Among Best in Country in Final NCAA Division I Statistical Rankings

Bulldogs Finished at Top of Big South in Numerous Statistical Categories
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The 2017-18 UNC Asheville men's basketball team finished among the best in the country in the final NCAA Division I statistics released this week.
The Bulldogs finished in the top-25 in the country at No. 24 in three-point field goal percentage with a team shooting percentage of 39.4 percent. The percentage led the Big South Conference.
UNC Asheville sophomore MaCio Teague led the Big South Conference and the team in three-point field goal percentage (.425). The 42.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc for Teague was 30th-best nationally.
The Bulldogs also finished in the top-40 at No. 39 in the country in field goal percentage at 47.5 percent shooting as a team.
Senior standout Ahmad Thomas led UNC Asheville in field goal percentage at 50.2 percent shooting.
UNC Asheville was among the best in the country in steals as well at 7.4 steals per game as a team (T-42nd). The 7.4 steals per game as a team led the Big South Conference.
A two-time Big South Defensive Player of the Year selection, Thomas led the Big South and the Bulldogs in steals at 1.9 per game, which was 43rd-best in the country for the UNC Asheville all-time steals leader.
The best in the Big South in assists per game at 15.4, UNC Asheville finished 61st in the country in the category as a team.
UNC Asheville's 2017-18 season featured a second straight regular-season Big South Conference championship for the Bulldogs and Asheville's third straight postseason appearance with the Bulldogs playing in the 2018 National Invitation Tournament.
UNC Asheville men's basketball picked up its seventh Big South Conference regular-season title (1996-97, 1997-98, 2001-02, 2007-08, 2011-12, 2016-17 and 2017-18) this past season.
The Bulldogs continued to set the standard in the Big South this past season by becoming the first program in league history to win 15 games or more for 11 straight seasons. The Bulldogs have also now won 10 or more league games in a season in a Big South men's basketball record 11 straight seasons.
