Bulldogs Drop Home Opener to Boston College

03.06.2018 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – In its first home game of the season, the UNC Asheville baseball team fell 8-0 to ACC-member Boston College on Tuesday at Greenwood Field.

BULLDOG BITES

Boston College scored the game's first run in the top of the second inning, as it took advantage of a trio of hits.

After back-to-back scoreless frames for both squads, BC placed a crooked number on the board, as it scored three runs in the top of the fifth.

With a 4-0 advantage, the Eagles extended their lead by scoring two more runs in both the seventh and ninth innings to seal the 8-0 victory.

The Bulldogs had several chances to plate runs in the contest. The best chance came in the third inning, when they worked some two-out magic by connecting with back-to-back hits followed by a walk to make the bases loaded. However, UNC Asheville left the three stranded after a ground out. UNC Asheville also had chances in both the fifth and eighth innings, but two Bulldogs were left on base in both frames.

Carmine Pagano continues to torture the ball, as he posted a multi-hit game versus the Eagles. The two-hit game in the home opener now marks his sixth multi-hit game of the season and the third multi-hit performance in the last four games.

Chris Troost, Joe Zayatz and Andrew Friedholm all contributed a single for the Bulldogs. As a team, UNC Asheville recorded six walks, which ties for the second-most this season.

Defensively, Jesse Juday, Blake Brown, Jordan Fulbright and Austin Fahr each posted a scoreless outing. Brown struck out a pair, while Juday tallied one strikeout. Between the foursome, they combined to allow just two hits in 3.1 innings of work.

UNC Asheville falls to 2-9 on the year, and Boston College advances to 5-5 overall.

What's Next?

The Bulldogs return to Greenwood Field Wednesday, March 7, as they host Appalachian State. First pitch is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
