Box Score

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team picked up a huge 4-2 upset victory over nationally 39th-ranked Clemson on Wednesday, March 21, at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.

Clemson (7-3) had entered the match having won seven doubles points in its nine matches on the year, but UNC Asheville (5-8) had other ideas on Wednesday with the Bulldogs taking two of the three flights in doubles to collect the point.

The Bulldog No. 1 doubles duo of Henry Patten and Olly Cull collected a statement win at the No. 1 spot with a 6-1 victory over the nationally 22nd-ranked Clemson tandem of Alex Favrot and Simon Baudry. Cull and Patten are now a perfect 8-0 on the season.

Edward Colclough and Oli Nolan made sure to secure the doubles point with a hard-fought 6-4 win over Sam Edwards and Yizhou Liu of Clemson at No. 2 doubles.

Currently ranked 69th nationally in singles, Patten easily bested Baudry 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. The win was Patten's second over Baudry in the 2017-18 athletic year. Patten bested Baudry 6-4, 6-2 in the ITA Carolinas Regional semifinals in October of 2017 before eventually taking down Favrot 6-3, 6-1 in the finals to take home the region crown.

Nolan picked up the point at No. 2 doubles for UNC Asheville with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over Edwards.

UNC Asheville clinched the win at No. 6 singles where Andrew Sinai downed Clemson's Marshall Dagostine 7-6, 6-3.

BULLDOG BITES
Quotables
"Been struggling a little bit these last few matches, so it was great to get the win (in singles) and get a big win for my boys." – Junior Andrew Sinai

"I don't really know what to say. It's probably one of the biggest team wins thus far. It feels amazing to get the win, and now we're ready to play the last few matches at home." – Junior Henry Patten

"Obviously that's a great win for our guys and for our program. We've talked a lot all semester about what we would be capable of if we play to our potential, and I think today we obviously came pretty close. I am delighted for the guys. They all fought hard, and hopefully that's some momentum that we can use going forward." – Head Coach Tom Hand
