Teague’s Heroics Lead Bulldogs to Thrilling Home League Win Over Radford

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – MaCio Teague scored the final nine points for the Bulldogs in a thrilling 66-64 come-from-behind victory for UNC Asheville men's basketball over Radford at Kimmel Arena on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018.
UNC Asheville (18-9, 11-3 Big South Conference) was down by seven to Radford (15-12, 8-6 Big South Conference) with 2:17 remaining in the game, but Teague's heroic efforts coupled with strong defense allowed the Bulldogs to battle back for the win.
The first of three consecutive three-pointers for Teague came with 1:52 to play. The trey pulled the Bulldogs back to within four at 64-60.
After solid work on the defensive end, Teague knocked down another trey with 1:13 to play to pull the Bulldogs within one at 64-63.
UNC Asheville would remain strong on the defensive end next to give the Bulldogs the opportunity to take the win.
Teague was once again up to the challenge with his three-pointer in the final seconds placing the Bulldogs on top, 66-64.
Radford's last-second three-pointer then fell short to leave UNC Asheville with its 21st straight home win.
Four Bulldogs finished in double figures in the win with Raekwon Miller leading the way with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He had five three-pointers. Miller also had six assists, three rebounds and one block.
Teague scored all of his 14 points in the second half with nine of the 14 coming in the final 1:52 of the game.
Ahmad Thomas closed out his day with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.
The final Bulldog in double figures was Kevin Vannatta with 11 points. He also had six rebounds and three assists.
Ed Polite, Jr. was the top scorer for Radford in its loss with 16 points.
UNC Asheville closed out its win shooting 47.8 percent (22-of-46) as a team. The Highlanders shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59) in its loss.

A Special Senior Class
With 78 wins in their career currently, the UNC Asheville senior class of Alec Wnuk, Kevin Vannatta, Raekwon Miller and Ahmad Thomas are now tied for the most wins over a four-year stretch in UNC Asheville men's basketball history. The foursome are tied with the freshmen class that started in the 1982-83 season.
Bulldogs Extend Special League Streak This Week
UNC Asheville with its road win over Longwood extended its own Big South Conference record by winning its 10th league game of the year. The Bulldogs, who now have 11 league wins, have now won 10 or more league games in a season in a Big South Conference men's basketball record 11 straight seasons.
Continuing to Set the Standard
UNC Asheville men's basketball has now won at least 15 games in a season for a league-record 11 consecutive seasons. UNC Asheville's 11th straight 15 or more win season allowed the Bulldogs to pass the old mark of 10 it shared with Winthrop (1998-08). UNC Asheville has won 15 or more games every year since the 2007-08 season.
Alone at the Top

Playing Great Basketball
After starting Big South play at 1-2, UNC Asheville has now won seven straight and 10 of its last 11 games to move to 18-9 overall and 11-3 in league play. The Bulldogs are the only team in the Big South this year to win seven straight league games.
Home Sweet Home
The league home win over Radford allowed the Bulldogs to extend their home winning streak to 21. UNC Asheville's 21-straight home wins is the third-longest home winning streak in the country. The win over Radford was UNC Asheville's 16th consecutive Big South Conference home victory. UNC Asheville is now 80-16 overall and 55-10 against Big South foes within the friendly confines of Kimmel Arena inside the Sherrill Center. The Bulldogs are 12-0 on the 2017-18 season at Kimmel Arena.

UNC Asheville senior guard Ahmad Thomas with 239 career steals is just nine steals from tying and 10 steals away from becoming the all-time steals leader at UNC Asheville. J.P. Primm (2008-12) is the current all-time leader with 248 career steals.
