Scott Tallies Career-High 17 Points in Road Loss

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Despite a career-high 17 points from junior Zip Scott, UNC Asheville women's basketball fell to Middle Tennessee, 67-46, inside the Murphy Center on Thursday night.

Game Highlights

The Bulldogs struggled to keep the Blue Raiders off the scoreboard in the first quarter, as Middle Tennessee tallied 21 points in the first 10 minutes of play. However, the Asheville defense started to find a groove, as it limited the Blue Raiders to only nine points in the second stanza.

At the halftime break, the Bulldogs only trailed by 13 points, 30-17. Six Bulldogs scored in the first 20 minutes of action, which was led by Scott's five first-half points. She went 2-for-4 from the field and made one three-pointer. Nadiria Evans was right behind her teammate with four points in nine minutes of action.

UNC Asheville nearly doubled its point total in the third quarter alone, as it scored 16 points in the 10-minute session. Scott was flawless from the hardwood, as the junior guard knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the stanza. Amaryah Corpening earned four points in four minutes of play, and Ali Trani contributed three points, while logging eight minutes.

Middle Tennessee fended off UNC Asheville in the final 10 minutes of the game, 18-13, as the Blue Raiders sealed the 67-46 victory. Again, Scott led the Asheville offense in the fourth quarter with six points off a pair of made three-pointers. Evans added five points, as three points came from the free-throw line.

Overall, Scott tallied a career-high 17 points in 29 minutes of play. She went 6-for-10 from the hardwood, including a single-game best five made three-pointers. The Anderson, S.C. native went 5-for-8 behind the three-point arc.

Evans was Asheville's second-leading scorer with nine points. She tallied two made field goals and went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Of the 10 players to see the court for UNC Asheville, nine Bulldogs scored in the non-conference contest.

UNC Asheville drops to 5-5 overall on the year, and Middle Tennessee advances to 8-3 on the season.

UNC Asheville concludes non-conference play on Sunday, Dec. 30 with a date at Mercer. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
