"Winthrop was great tonight," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said after the match. "They were desperate, committed, feisty and hopeful. Coach (Daniel) Ridenhour and his coaching staff did a great job with their team tonight. I had told our group before the match that they are much better than their record. Full credit to Winthrop. They came and brought the game to us and kept the game at us and took three points tonight.
"On the flip side, I don't think we were as good as we could have been. That's certainly disappointing. I told our staff after the match that we are on to Presbyterian. It's a crucial, must-have game for us. We've now got a huge game Wednesday at Presbyterian and a huge game Saturday at Radford. We've got to win both of them, so that's what we are all about right now."
