Bulldogs Drop Match at Presbyterian College

10.10.2018 | Men's Soccer

CLINTON, S.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team dropped its match at Presbyterian College, 5-1, on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

UNC Asheville (1-10-2, 0-5-0 Big South) struck first in the match with Joe LaCasto scoring in the 19th minute on a penalty kick.

Presbyterian College (3-9-0, 3-1-0 Big South) would even up the game 10 minutes later before scoring again in the 31st minute to take a 2-1 advantage. The Blue Hose would tack one more on in the 45th minute to take a 3-1 lead into intermission.

UNC Asheville had some quality chances in the second half, but the Blue Hose added two more goals in the half to pick up the 5-1 win.

The Bulldogs played over half the game with 10 men.

Presbyterian College finished the match with a 34-7 shot advantage over the Bulldogs. The Blue Hose had a 9-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

#ThePursuit Man of the Match
For his efforts in the game, UNC Asheville's Joe LaCasto was chosen by the coaching staff as #ThePursuit Man of the Match.

Quotable
"We started the game well and were quite pleased to get the first goal," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. "We then made some decisions that are challenging to success. Taking a red card on the road in a game you have to win is never an ideal situation. We then had to try and win the game with 10 men. It's always going to be a tough task to come back and win a Big South game on the road, but it becomes monumentally challenging when you are playing down a man. I am proud of our effort, but I am disappointed in the lack of discipline we showed late in the first half. We will learn from it and move forward as we prepare to play a very good Radford team."

Up Next
UNC Asheville men's soccer will next travel to Radford to battle the Highlanders at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
