Women’s Soccer Offering Free Admission to Monday’s Match Versus Winthrop

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – To make up last week's match, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team welcomes Winthrop to Asheville on Monday, Oct. 15.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., and admission is free for all fans.
BULLDOG BITES
About UNC Asheville
The Bulldogs enter its first Monday contest of the season with a 2-6-4 overall record and a 1-3-2 mark in Big South play. The Bulldogs are a respectable 2-2-2 in the friendly confines of Greenwood Field.
In its last game, UNC Asheville upended Hampton, 1-0, in double overtime. Kyra Kandel netted the game-winning goal in the 107th minute. The goal was her second of the season, which ties Gillian Oyos for the team lead. Bella Iorio earned the assist on the golden goal, which was her second career assist.
Courtney O'Malley earned the shutout victory, which was her first win in her career. The freshman only faced five Pirate shots and only needed to make one save. On the year. she sports an impressive 0.87 goals against average and a .892 save percentage.
Scouting Winthrop
Winthrop travels to Asheville with an 8-5-1 overall mark and a 4-3-0 record in league play. In road games, the Eagles are 3-3-0.
On Saturday, Winthrop ended a three-game losing streak by defeating High Point, 2-1, at home.
Winthrop is out-scoring its opposition this year, 23-22. Leading the offensive surge is Allie Thomas, who has five goals this year. Gabi Hull, Keeley Leising and Katie Colwick have all netted a trio of goals this season.
Thomas is also the team leader in assists with three.
Kelly Horan has started all 14 games in net for the Eagles. She has totaled over 1,274 minutes between the pipes and totes a 1.55 goals against average. She has posted two shutouts this year and has a .766 save percentage.
Last Time Out Versus the Eagles
Last year Winthrop upended the Bulldogs, 4-1, in Rock Hill, S.C. Rachel Snyder scored the lone goal for Asheville.
In the last home game versus Winthrop (Oct. 19, 2016), UNC Asheville edged the Eagles, 1-0, at Greenwood Field. Courtney Naber tallied the lone goal of the game in the 57th minute to lift the Bulldogs to victory.
