Women’s Golf Concludes Final Round at Pirate Collegiate Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team concluded its final round at the Pirate Collegiate Classic in Greenville, N.C. on Tuesday as freshman golfer Taylor Hinson paced the Bulldogs with a top 25 finish at the Greenville Country Club.

Final Round Highlights
Hinson carded the lowest individual score for the Bulldogs on the final 18 holes as she concluded the two-day tournament with a 4-over 76 score. The Belmont, N.C. native finished tied for 23rd at 9-over 225 (77-72-76). Highlighting Hinson's final round was her eagle on the par-5, 440-yard hole 18 along with four birdies in the final 18 holes.
Sophomore Janie Thomas was right behind her teammate on Tuesday as the Winston-Salem, N.C. native recorded a 5-over 77. Thomas finished tied for 45th with four other individuals.
As a team, the Bulldogs finished 13th at 68-over 932 (312-308-312). The three-round score was only three strokes away from jumping into the top 10 with Big South Conference rival Charleston Southern.
Host school and No. 56th ranked East Carolina took home the team crown as the Pirates won their third straight Pirate Collegiate Classic. ECU inked a 1-over 865 (280-299-286), which bested runner-up Western Kentucky by 13 strokes and marked the lowest three-round team score in tournament history.
Winthrop paced the Big South as the Eagles finished 5th at 36-over 900 (305-295-300) in the two-day event.
ECU's Dorthea Forbrigd won the individual title after a playoff hole versus teammate Kate Law. Forbrigd and Law both penciled a 1-under 215 at the Greenville Country Club. Jenny Buchanan of Towson and Carley Cox of East Carolina tied for 3rd as they each improved four positions in the final round after shooting even-72 on Tuesday.
What's Next?
The Bulldogs will return to the links in five days as UNC Asheville travels to Clarksville, Tenn. to compete in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament begins on Monday, Oct. 2 and concludes the following day.
