UNC Asheville Ties for Second and Five Bulldogs Place in Top 15

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team improved two positions on the final day as the team finished tied for second while five Bulldogs placed in the top 15 individually at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Clarksville Country Club.

Final Round Highlights
UNC Asheville jumped two spots as a team as it finished tied for second with Louisiana Monroe. The Bulldogs carded the second-lowest team score in the third round as they inked a 19-over 307 to jump host school Austin Peay. Asheville finished the two-day tournament at 68-over 932 (313-312-307) and bested the Governors by a pair of strokes.

Five Bulldogs finished in the top 15 as Adelyn Deery placed tied for 8th at 15-over 231. She carded a 6-over 78 to conclude the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate. Sophomore Kellen Alsip finished 13th at 17-over 233 (83-76-74). The 2-over 74 third round score was a career best for the Cincinnati, Ohio native. The 74 round score also tied two other golfers for the lowest third round score on Tuesday.

Nipping at her heels was Janie Thomas who placed one stroke behind Alsip. Thomas finished the tournament at 18-over 234 (75-80-79), which placed her in sole possession of 14th place.

Linna Brooks and Becca Black tied two other individuals at 15th place as the two each carded a 19-over 235 to conclude the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.

Southern Illinois, who was leading after the first day of the tournament, held onto the top spot as it finished the two-day outing at 50-over 914. The Bulldogs outpaced Big South rival Radford by 43 strokes as the Highlanders finished in 7th at 111-over 975.

Mallory Sullivan of Belmont won the individual crown as she carded a 9-over 225. Shani White of ULM nearly tied Sullivan on the final day as she finished one stroke behind the Bruin.

What's Next?

The Bulldogs conclude their fall schedule at the Winthrop Intercollegiate in late October in Rock Hill, S.C.
