Bulldogs Prepped for Winthrop Intercollegiate This Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – To cap off its fall portion of the 2017-18 season, the UNC Asheville women's golf team will travel to Big South Conference rival Winthrop from Oct. 21-22 as the Bulldogs will compete in the 2017 Winthrop Intercollegiate in Rock Hill, S.C.

In their previous tournament (F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate), the Bulldogs turned in one of their strongest performances this year as UNC Asheville tied for second with Louisiana Monroe at 68-over 932 in the two-day tournament.
Sophomore Adelyn Deery led the team as she placed tied for 8th at 15-over 231 in Clarksville, Tenn. Kellen Alsip finished 13th at 12-over 233, while Janie Thomas finished one stroke behind her teammate to place 14th. Linna Brooks and Becca Black rounded out the top 15 showings for the Bulldogs as the duo each carded a 19-over 235 at the Clarksville Country Club.
As a team, UNC Asheville won its second-ever tournament and finished tied for runner-up so far this fall. Individually, there have been nine times a Bulldogs has finished within the top 15. The highest individual finish this year was by freshman Taylor Hinson at the NKU Fall Classic where she placed third out of 82 golfers.
Previewing the 2017 Winthrop Intercollegiate
The 2017 Winthrop Intercollegiate is being hosted by Winthrop. The two-day, 36-hole tournament begins on Oct. 21 and concludes the following day with the final 18 holes. The Eagles are hosting the outing at the Rock Hill Country Club, which is a par-72 and 5,993-yard course
The field features 10 teams including six squads from the Big South – UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Presbyterian, Radford and Winthrop.
All teams will open the first round on hole one with the first tee set for 10:30 a.m.
The Bulldogs' will begin their opening round at 11:06 a.m. Sunday's round will be a shotgun start and will commence at 9:30 a.m.
The Bulldogs are paired with several schools including Radford, High Point, Austin Peay, Gardner-Webb, South Carolina Beaufort and North Carolina Tech in the opening round.
