Hinson Finishes Top 10 as Bulldogs Conclude Fall Schedule

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team dropped to sixth place as the Bulldogs concluded the Winthrop Intercollegiate and their fall portion of the schedule on Sunday afternoon at the Rock Hill Country Club.

Final Round Highlights
Freshman Taylor Hinson continued to lead the Bulldogs as she carded a team-best 4-over 76. The Belmont, N.C. native was tied for third in the entire field in total birdies as she carded seven in the 36-hole tournament in Rock Hill. Hinson improved one position as she settled for 9th place at 7-over 151 (75-76).
Janie Thomas posted the second-lowest score on the Bulldog squad as she finished the outing tied for 11th place at 11-over 155 (76-79). The sophomore finished the two-day tournament tied for second in par-5 scoring as the Winston-Salem, N.C. native went 2-under on par-5 holes.
Adelyn Deery placed tied for 30th at 17-over 161 (79-82), while teammate Becca Black finished tied for 33rd at 18-over 162 (79-83).
As a team, the Bulldogs finished in sixth place as they inked a 53-over 629 (309-320).
High Point narrowly held on to the top spot by two strokes as it carded a 15-over 303 on Sunday. Winthrop shot the best team score in the final round (1-under 287) as it was the runner-up in the two-day outing.
Ashley Sloup of Winthrop won the individual crown as she shot the lowest score in the second round (5-under 67). Her teammate, Chelsea Dantonio, finished in second and four strokes behind Sloup. High Point also placed four individuals in the top 6.
What's Next For The Bulldogs?
UNC Asheville will take a three and a half month break from the links as the Bulldogs prepare for the Mid-American Match Play Challenge, which is hosted by Bowling Green in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. The opening round is slated for Feb. 5.
