ASHEVILLE, N.C. – In a rain-delayed Big South Conference opener, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon despite the Bulldogs out-shooting the Bucs 13-11.

BULLDOG BITES

How It Happened

The Bucs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as they found the back of the net in the fourth minute. Jordan Newman worked her way through the UNC Asheville defense as she drilled a goal from just outside of the 18-yard box.

Fifteen minutes later, Charleston Southern doubled its lead as Newman worked her way through the attacking half to record her second goal of the match.

The Bulldogs tallied four shots before the halftime break with one being on goal as Rachel Snyder ripped a shot on frame. However, the CSU goalkeeper made the save for her second save of the first half.

Despite playing three and a half minutes into the second half, the game was delayed due to lightning in the area.

After an hour and 26 minute delay, the Bulldogs started to jump out quickly as they maintained most of the possession early. Asheville was awarded three corner kicks and took a pair of shots on frame within five minutes of resuming play.

However, Charleston Southern halted the UNC Asheville momentum as the Buccaneers netted the third goal of the match in the 59th minute.

Within the final 31 minutes, the Bulldogs took four shots with one on goal, and they held the Bucs to three shots with none on frame to conclude the match.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Bucs 13-11 in the Big South opener including putting six shots on goal to Charleston Southern's five.

Freshman Skyler Chillson drilled three shots with two on goal, while Caroline Houser and Courtney Naber each knocked a trio of shots.

UNC Asheville falls to 4-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big South, and Charleston Southern moves to 3-5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Big South.
