How It Happened
The Owls used the counterattack to strike first as a left winger out-ran the Bulldog defense to force Bryson Lee to make a diving save. The freshman stood tall, but the ball deflected to a KSU attacker who tapped the ball into the open net to give the Owls the 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.
Kennesaw State took eight shots in the first half compared to UNC Asheville's two, and the Owls forced Lee to make five saves in the first 45 minutes.
KSU doubled its lead in the 63rd minute to take a 2-0 lead over Asheville. The Kennesaw State goalkeeper punted the ball over the midfield line, and an Owl poked the ball behind the defensive backline to Jessica Sexton. She dribbled the ball up several yards in the Asheville half, and she knocked a cross to the back post where Ashtah Das headed the ball into the net to give KSU a 2-0 advantage.
Seven minutes later, Kennesaw State put the game away as Sexton stole the ball and scored on a breakaway to make it a 3-0 lead.
Despite the Owls netting two goals in the second half, the Bulldogs possessed the ball better in the final 45 minutes, and they limited the Owls to five shots.
The Bulldogs weren't able to take a corner in the first half, but in the second half, Asheville was awarded three corner kicks.
Seniors Caroline Houser and Courtney Naber each took two shots to lead the Bulldogs with Erika Snyder and Houser each putting one shot on frame.
The Bulldogs fall to 3-2-1 on the year, while the Owls move to 5-1-2 in 2017.
What's Next
UNC Asheville returns to Greenwood Field on Thursday, Sept. 14 as the Bulldogs take on Elon at 7 p.m.
