Women’s Soccer Prepares for Two-Match Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After starting the season undefeated, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team will look to carry its success with a pair of weekend matchups including a home match on Aug. 25 versus North Florida and a road contest at Jacksonville on Aug. 27.

Promotions for Friday
With the start of school year underway, the Bulldogs are hosting Freshmen Night at Greenwood Field. Freshmen are encouraged to come out to the match and participate in events during halftime.
The UNC Asheville Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is also hosting the Residence Hall Challenge where each residence hall will compete to determine the most supportive hall on campus.

The Bulldogs enter the weekend with an unblemished 2-0 record and momentum on their side after coming back to defeat Wofford 3-2 in overtime after being down a pair of goals with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
Senior Courtney Naber led the comeback surge for Asheville as she netted a pair of goals, which was the first multi-goal performance of her career. The Big South Conference tabbed the Loveland, Ohio native as the Attacking Player of the Week, which was the first of her career and the first time a Bulldog earned the award since the first week of the 2015 season (Paige Trent).
With the 2-0 record, it is the best start to a season since 2015, where UNC Asheville began its season 7-2 in the first nine games.
Since 2013, the Bulldogs are 13-3 in the month of August.
Caroline Houser matched Hilary McKay versus Wofford for the most career assists (22) in UNC Asheville history, and with the comeback victory, head coach Michelle Demko is three wins away from 50 career victories. Alison Kurucz scored the game-tying goal with four minutes remaining in regulation versus the Terriers, and the goal was the first of her career.
Two games into the season, the Bulldogs have seen multiple players put the ball in the back of the net – Naber (two goals), Kurucz (one goal) and Skyler Chillson (one goal). In the attack-heavy offense, UNC Asheville has out-shot opponents 45-28 including 24-12 on frame.
Ryanna Hammond and Grace Kwiatkowski each made an appearance on Sunday against Wofford, which marked their first appearance as a Bulldog.
Freshman goalkeeper Bryson Lee has started both games and has totaled 183:37 minutes between the posts where she has tallied 10 saves and a shutout. She sports a 0.98 goals against average, which puts her fifth in the league.
Scouting North Florida
North Florida comes to Asheville for the first time in program history. The Ospreys are 1-1 on the season with a 1-0 win over Charleston Southern and a 4-2 loss to Elon.
Freshman Thais Reiss has been turning heads this year as she has accounted for two of the three goals for North Florida. She has taken 11 shots and put eight on frame in a pair of starts. The midfielder has scored in both games including the game-winning penalty kick against Charleston Southern.
North Florida has out-shot opponents 35-23 including 23-11 on frame, but it has allowed four goals on 23 shots (.174 shot percentage).
Previewing Jacksonville
The Dolphins have started their season 1-1 as they played the same opponents as North Florida – Charleston Southern and Elon. Jacksonville defeated the Buccaneers 2-1 and dropped a 2-1 decision to the Phoenix.
Senior forward Joelle d'Entremont has been leading the offensive surge as she has two goals this year. The Canada native has netted a goal in both games including the game-winner in the season opener versus Charleston Southern in the 86th minute. Krya Cloutler scored the other goal for Jacksonville as she sports a perfect 1.000 shot on goal percentage.
Jacksonville is coming off a 4-11-1 season where it finished fifth in the ASUN Conference. The 'Phins lost one starter and welcomed six newcomers for the 2017 season.
The Bulldogs and Dolphins have met once on the pitch in their all-time history (2008 in Jacksonville). Asheville won the match 3-2 in overtime behind Lindsay Bragg's two-goal performance including the game-winner in the 107th minute.
