SPARTANBURG, S.C.—The UNC Asheville women's tennis team was defeated, 6-1, by the Wofford Terriers Friday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center.
The match began with Wofford winning the doubles competition, taking an early 1-0 lead. Action on court No. 2 ended first with Wofford's Catherine Martin and Lauren Reid defeating Hunter Hall and Lauren Watson-Steele, 6-1. The Terriers clinched the doubles point when Asheville's No. 1 duo of Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley fell 6-4 to Cassidy Hicks and Kalli Karas. Play on court No. 3 was left unfinished.
Singles play began with the Bulldogs' No. 4 Hall falling in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, to Wofford's Reid. The Terriers' No. 3 Karas extended their lead when she downed Amalie Davidsen, 6-2, 6-0. The match was clinched on court No. 2 when Asheville's Francisco was defeated by Hicks, 7-5, 6-2. No. 1 Shipley battled back after dropping the first set to Martin but fell short, dropping a 6-3, 6-7, 1-0, decision. The No. 5 seeded freshman Emily Sidor was topped by Taylor Carlson, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0. Play concluded with the Bulldogs' No. 6 Christin Louw besting Curran Carver, 7-6, 2-6, 1-0.

A LOOK AROUND THE LEAGUE: Asheville is currently sitting in 5th place in the Big South Conference standings. Winthrop is atop the league, holding a 15-4 overall record, as well as a 6-0 conference record. Charleston Southern and Liberty find themselves right behind the Eagles, both undefeated at 4-0 in league play. Gardner-Webb is the other team above the Bulldogs with a 4-2 conference record.
WEEKLY AWARDS: Kylee Shipley was named the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the week and Emily Sidor was named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week for the second time this season for their performances in matches played Feb. 27-March 6.
FRESHMAN SHINING: Despite dropping her match today, freshman Emily Sidor has had a stellar start to her collegiate career and is now 8-5 in singles play.
GOING THE DISTANCE: Sophomore Kylee Shipley has shown her resiliency this year as 10 of her 18 matches have gone a full three sets. Shipley is not only 13-5 on the season in singles play, but 8-2 in matches that have gone the full three sets.

The Bulldogs will conclude their regular-season when they travel to the Clinton, S.C., to face Presbyterian College on Wednesday, April 5, with the match beginning at 2 p.m.
