Women's Tennis Closes Regular-Season With League Road Win at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C.—The UNC Asheville women's tennis team concluded their regular-season with a hard-fought 4-3 triumph over Presbyterian College at the Templeton Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon.
The afternoon began with the Bulldogs sweeping the doubles competition to take an early 1-0 lead. The No. 1 duo of Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley downed Presbyterian's Tracy Johnson and Nicole Croxton, 6-4. Court No. 2 saw Asheville's Lauren Watson-Steele and Hunter Hall battle for a 7-5 victory over Demi Henschei and Caroline Ferrari. The No. 3 pairing of Christin Louw and Emily Sidor wrapped up the doubles action by downing Beth Taylor and Brittany Nuttall, 6-4.
Asheville's No. 1-seeded Francisco got back on the winning track with a straight set, 6-3, 6-3, win over Johnson. On court No. 2, Shipley fell to Taylor after forcing a third set, 6-4, 4-6, 1-6. Asheville stretched to a 3-1 lead when Watson-Steele defeated Henschei, 6-4, 6-3. The Blue Hose took another three-setter, this time on Court No. 4 when Nuttall topped Amalie Davidsen, 6-3, 4-6, 5-7. The No. 5 slotted Louw downed Croxton in an impressive, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4, feat. Presbyterian's No. 6 Thompson concluded the afternoon by defeating Sidor, 6-3, 6-3.
BULLDOG BITES
FINISHING STRONG: Sophomore Christin Louw has closed out the season very effectively. After her victory today, Louw finished the season on a four-match winning streak heading into the Big South Championships. Louw started the win streak by topping the then No. 58th-ranked Winthrop Eagles' No. 6 Alya Mourad in straight sets on March, 22.
WEEKLY AWARDS: Kylee Shipley was named the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the week and Emily Sidor was named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week for the second time this season for their performances in matches played Feb. 27-March 6.
FOCUSED FRESHMAN: Despite dropping her match today, freshman Emily Sidor has had a stellar start to her collegiate career, finishing 8-6 in singles play on the year.
GOING THE DISTANCE: Sophomore Kylee Shipley has shown her resiliency this year as 11 of her 19 matches have gone a full three sets. Shipley is not only 13-6 on the season in singles play, but 8-3 in matches that have gone the full three sets.

The Bulldogs will now look forward to the Big South Conference Championships held in Winston-Salem, N.C. from April 20-23.
