Bulldogs Get Back on Winning Track With 6-1 Win at NCCU

DURHAM, N.C.—The UNC Asheville women's tennis team got back on the winning track with a 6-1 triumph over the North Carolina Central Eagles Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs claimed the early lead, winning the doubles competition and they never looked back. The No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished as Asheville had already clinched on courts No. 2 and 3. The No. 2 duo of Hunter Hall and Lauren Watson-Steele defeated Jasmine Gabriel and Emily Pena, 6-4. On court No. 3, Christin Louw and Emily Sidor blanked Tamara Jeremic and Lauren Mullis, 6-0.

The No. 1 player from North Carolina Central, Rogers, downed Francisco in a super tiebreak, 5-7, 6-4, 11-9. The Bulldogs went on to take courts No. 2-6. No. 2 Shipley won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. On court No. 3 Watson-Steele topped Cover, 7-5, 6-0. Court No. 4 saw Amalie Davidsen best Jeremic, 6-4, 6-2. The No. 5 singles slotted Louw beat Pena, 6-1, 6-1. On court No. 6, freshman Sidor was nearly perfect in a 6-1, 6-0, victory.

WEEKLY AWARDS: Kylee Shipley was named the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the week and Emily Sidor was named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week for the second time this season for their performances in matches played Feb. 27-March 6.
FRESHMAN SHINING: The youngster got back on the winning track today with her victory. Freshman Emily Sidor has had a stellar start to the season and is now 8-4 in singles play.
GOING THE DISTANCE: Sophomore Kylee Shipley has shown her resiliency this year as nine of her 17 matches have gone a full three sets. Shipley is not only 13-4 on the season in singles play, but 8-1 in matches that have gone the full three sets.
UP NEXTÂ
The Bulldogs will conclude their road trip when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to face Wofford, on Saturday, March 31, with the match beginning at 2 p.m.
