ROCK HILL, S.C.—The UNC Asheville women's tennis team fell 6-1 to the Winthrop Eagles Wednesday afternoon at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.

Winthrop swept the doubles competition to take an early 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Asheville's No. 1 duo of Kylee Shipley and Hannah Francisco saw their six-match win streak snapped by Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman in a 6-3 defeat. At the No. 2 doubles position, the Bulldogs' Hunter Hall and Amalie Davidsen lost 6-0 to Caitlin Cridland and Alisa Soloveva. The No. 3 pairing of Christin Louw and Emily Sidor were beaten 6-2 by Alya Mourad and Aida Kelic.

Singles play began with the Bulldogs' No. 1 seeded Francisco falling to Proctor, 6-2, 6-0. On court No. 2 Shipley was topped by Soloveva, 6-2, 6-2. The No. 3 seeded Hall was defeated by Cridland, 6-0, 6-3. Davidsen fell on court No. 4 to the Eagles' Kauffman, 6-3, 6-1. Court No. 5 saw the freshman Sidor topped by Kelic, 7-5, 6-2. Asheville's No. 6 Louw won a hard fought 7-5, 7-5, match to Mourad.

BULLDOG BITES
STREAK SNAPPED: The No. 1 pairing of Kylee Shipley and Hannah Francisco fell to 10-5 on the season after losing their match today, snapping their six-match win streak.

WEEKLY AWARDS: Kylee Shipley was named the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the week and Emily Sidor was named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week for the second time this season for their performances in matches played Feb. 27-March 6.

FRESHMAN SHINING: Despite her loss to the Eagles today, freshman Emily Sidor has had a stellar start to the season and is now 7-4 in singles play.

GOING THE DISTANCE: Sophomore Kylee Shipley has shown her resiliency this year as nine of her 16 matches have gone a full three sets. Shipley is not only 12-4 on the season in singles play, but 8-1 in matches that have gone the full three sets.

UP NEXT 
The Bulldogs will continue their road swing when they travel to Durham, N.C., to face North Carolina Central, on Saturday, March 25, with the match beginning at 1 p.m.
