KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball program was featured heavily on this year's NCAA Division I NABC All-District 3 Team.

UNC Asheville junior guard Ahmad Thomas was tabbed as a first-team selection in District 3, while freshman guard MaCio Teague was a second-team choice.

In addition, 2016-17 Big South Conference Coach of the Year Nick McDevitt shared District 3 Coach of the Year honors with Joe Dooley of Florida Gulf Coast.

A first-team Big South All-Conference selection as well, Thomas averaged 18.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.3 assists per game in the 2016-17 season.

The 2016-17 Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Year will enter his senior season in the 2017-18 season with 1,098 points and 519 rebounds. The 56th player in Big South Conference history to score over 1,000 points and collect over 500 rebounds, Thomas with 189 steals in his career is nearing becoming just the sixth player in league history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 steals. Thomas' 99 steals this season for the Bulldogs is a program record.

A first-team Big South Conference choice also, Teague finished his freshman season averaging 15.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

The 2016-17 Big South Conference Freshman of the Year ended his first year in a Bulldog uniform with 509 points to become just one of seven players in league history to record 500 or more points during their freshman season. At one point during Big South Conference play this past season, Teague connected on 29 consecutive free throw attempts.

McDevitt led the Bulldogs to their sixth Big South Conference regular-season title in the 2016-17 season (1996-97, 1997-98, 2001-02, 2007-08, 2011-12 and 2016-17). He has now been a part of five of the six Big South Conference regular-season crowns either as a player, assistant coach or head coach (1997-98, 2001-02, 2007-08, 2011-12 and 2016-17).

Just the third coach in Big South Conference history to win 15 or more games in each of his first four seasons as a head coach in the conference, McDevitt guided the Bulldogs to their second-most wins in program history in a season this year with 23. This year's Bulldog team reached 20 wins faster than any other team in program history in 27 games.

McDevitt's program has now collected back-to-back 20-win seasons and made two straight postseason appearances with the Bulldogs playing in the 2016 NCAA Tournament and the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division I, these student-athletes and coaches represent the finest basketball players and coaches across America.

Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service and education.
