ASHEVILLE, N.C.—The UNC Asheville women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Charleston Southern on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The Bucs claimed the early lead when they seized the doubles point. The No. 1 duo of Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley extended to a six-match winning streak with their 6-2 victory over Sophie Cloessner and Nicolin Luecke. At the No. 2 doubles position, Mi'Kola Cooper and Valeria Koussenkova topped Hunter Hall and Lauren Watson-Steele, 6-4. The doubles point was clinched when Kimberley Koerner and Yana Morar defeated Christin Louw and Emily Sidor, 6-1.
Singles play began with No. 1 seeded Luecke downing Francisco, 7-5, 6-3. On court No. 2 Shipley won yet another match to go the distance over Cloessner, 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 (8). Charleston Southern's No. 3 slotted Cooper defeated Watson-Steele 7-5, 6-3. Court No. 4 saw Koerner top Hall, 6-3, 6-2. The No. 5 seeded freshman Sidor lost 6-1, 6-1, to Koussenkova. Asheville's No. 6 Amalie Davidsen won in straight sets over Morar, 6-4, 6-1.

SENIOR DAY: Seniors Hunter Hall and Caroline Sherrer were honored after the match by Head Coach Lise Gregory for Senior Day.Â
QUITE THE PAIR: The No. 1 pairing of Kylee Shipley and Hannah Francisco are now 10-4 on the season and riding a six-match winning streak with today's victory.
WEEKLY AWARDS: Kylee Shipley was named Big South Women's Tennis Player of the week and Emily Sidor was named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week for the second time this season for their performances in the matches played Feb. 27-March 6.
FRESHMAN SHINING: Despite her loss today, freshman Emily Sidor has had a stellar start to the season and is now 7-3 in singles play.
GOING THE DISTANCE: Sophomore Kylee Shipley has shown her resiliency this year as nine of her 15 matches have gone a full three sets. Shipley is not only 12-3 on the season in singles play, but 8-1 in matches that have gone the full three sets.
UP NEXTÂ
The Bulldogs will travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to face the Winthrop Eagles on Wednesday, March 22, with the match beginning at 2 p.m.
