GREENSBORO, N.C.—The UNC Asheville women's tennis team fell, 5-2, at the hands of UNCG at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

Doubles play began with the No. 1 pairing of Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley topping the Spartans' Alice Taylor and Yasmin Franco, 6-3. The Bulldogs' No. 2, Christin Louw and Lauren Watson-Steele dropped a hard-fought match to Blain Boaz and Nancy Bridges in a heartbreaking tiebreak, 6(4)-7. On court No. 3, Hunter Hall and Amalie Davidsen fell to Corinne Blythe and Sarah Swiderski, 6-2.
After losing the doubles point, Asheville couldn't seem to rally as UNCG swept the singles competition. The Bulldogs' No. 1 Francisco fell to Morse in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5. No. 2 Watson-Steele lost to Swiderski, 6-4, 6-3. Court No. 3 saw one of the two matches that went the distance, with Shipley rallying to beat Franco, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. At No 4, Davidsen fell to Demos, in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. The Bulldogs' No. 5 Louw beat Boaz in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. No. 6 Hall finished off the day dropping her match to Bridges 6-2, 6-4.

QUITE THE PAIR: The No. 1 pairing of sophomores Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley have had a stellar start to the season. The pair is now 4-1 on the year after today's victory over UNCG's top twosome.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lauren Watson-Steele was named the Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week earlier this year for her standout performance to open the season. The freshman from Cambridgeshire, England, is 4-1 in singles play and is also 3-2 in doubles.
UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will play host to Davidson at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Asheville Racquet Club.
