ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team lost a heartbreaking, 4-3, match to mountain rival Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.

The afternoon began with the No. 1-seeded pair of Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley falling to the Catamounts' Savannah Taranto and Alexa Webb, 6-3. Court No. 3 saw Amalie Davidsen and Hunter Hall drop their match to Elizabeth Ansari and Madison Riley, 6-2. The Bulldogs' No. 2, Christin Louw and Lauren Watson-Steele's match against Lauren McCall and Jordan Strickland was left unfinished as Western Carolina had already clinched the doubles point.

Singles play began with the Bulldogs' No. 1 Francisco besting Taranto in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. No. 2 Shipley fell to Strickland, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. On court No. 3 Watson-Steele rallied to beat McCall in a three setter, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.  At the No. 4 singles slot, Louw lost to Webb, 6-3, 6-1. Despite battling back in the second, No. 5 Hall was defeated by Riley, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Freshman Emily Sidor saw action for the second time this season, earning her second collegiate victory over Ansari, 6-4, 6-3.
